It's been this way for a while. The newest generation full size SUV and 2500 trucks have been six digits since 2021. Escalades have been over $100K for almost a decade.

I have been in the dealer service business since April of 1993 and can remember the shock of the first $30K Suburban I saw.

A new loaded High Country Suburban is way over $100K. We sold a 2023 Z06 for $163K a few weeks ago. The average small SUV is $25K.

I will be 65 in Sept and want to retire. I have a 2007 Honda Accord and some how engine blew 3 months ago. Had to put a junk yard engine in for 2400.00 for Engine labor. My 2010 dodge 1/2 ton 4 door , 4x4 has 150,000 on it. I need a new Tacoma to take me to funeral or nursing home.
I am very depressed. How am I so suppose to buy a new truck on SS and what I have saved that is $47,000. Keeps me up at night. MD

That's what it has come to. Our rulers send billions of our dollars to foreign countries (like the 14 billion just sent to Israel) but people on social security don't get enough to live on.

Why are new trucks so expensive? Well, here's one reason why.

Now think of all the abuse tailgates are subjected to - for anybody who uses their truck for any actual work - and think of the cost of repairing or replacing that. And don't the new F-150s have aluminum body panels?

When I see the tailgate gadgets like that and what GM has and the tool boxes RAM has in their bed sides, all I think of is how long before they rattle, leak and drive me nuts.

Oh, great! Now I'm pondering how I ever lived so long without that tailgate. It's going to be on my mind like an earworm song

Thanks a lot, Ford!

The better mousetrap :ROFLMAO:
Except that GM has had a multi function tailgate for a few years now, as well as copying the Ford aluminum truck panels after making "light" of them in their commercials. Thanks a lot, GM. And pay back those billions you stiffed us taxpayers while you are at it.

You know, from what I see in this thread- a lot of guys who post anti-socialism and pro-capitalism in the political section really aren't serious. They are actually "the other side" and show themselves here. They want a "real truck", therefore, everyone should have one like they want, and not a "station wagon" or whatever other slur they can throw out there for a truck that doesn't meet their expectations. Hitler comes to mind- everyone can have a basic auto- a VW- and not what they want because they don't want to see others having something they don't. It has to be that, because you can still order a "work truck" without all those add-ons and 4 doors. It's really simple- if you don't like what the majority of the buying population are getting for the current fad, DON'T BUY IT. But don't complain because others want it and buy it. See- that is capitalism. The freedom to choose, and not have a VW in every driveway.

The Rambox generally doesn't leak or rattle…but…when the $4.25 clip on the lock actuator breaks AND you've never lubed the manual lock since no one uses them it's me to the rescue...so…my PSA for the day is to lube your locks and latches if do do your own services.

People can order what they want. If I can buy off the lot I will. I don't care what people want to drive. There are no bare bones vehicles anymore and most of the features that are on what is available are not something I would necessarily want. I will buy the simplest model I can get. If I have to order it next time I will

I'm for everybody getting whatever they want, don't care not my concern. I've got several toys that I have no real need for in the
barn, I paid for them and I still own my home and won't likely starve any time soon ....so those that don't like it....
That said, early in this thread I pointed out that a 2 door, 8Ft box, 4 wheel drive "work truck" is somewhere in the $45,000 to $48,000
range and I'll bet with the new UAW contract will be $50,000 pretty quickly. With our government regulations and the corporations
working profit margins as much as possible the old school "striped" trucks are gone.

A certain amount of those bells and whistles are .gov mandated and that's part of the problem. They have to have the backup camera so that gives them the excuse to put everything into one unit. The anti-impaired driver equipment will only make it worse.

Went to take a look at some of the GMC 2500 pickups. Rolled by an entire row at dealer in the $100,000.00 + price range. Yes. 100 thousand plus.
Rolled out of dealer speechless.
I'd skip the new models. Too much fragile tech, unless that's what you want. Check out Bring A Trailer (BAT), and you'll find plenty of older, quality, less tech GM rides. I bought a 96' Bronco off of eBay 10 yrs ago with 76K for $15K and still have it.
If you really do want NEW, try TrueCar website. Dial in your preferences, your radius, and let your computer and phone do the rest. I live in N. Florida. None of the dealers here had what I was looking for and especially didn't want to deal, even in a large metro area. I went to TrueCar, dialed in my preferences and purchase radius (250 mi.), I contacted the dealer and purchased the vehicle I wanted in So. Carolina at the price I wanted. I picked it up five days later, detailed with a full tank of fuel (36 gallons).

Just my $.02

Last week I priced a new Chevrolet Silverado Work Truck. A basic box and wheels to haul me and my tools with no additional options is 37K.

My existing truck is a Colorado Work Truck with 91K on it so I am not going to buy until this one wears out. The Colorado is no longer made with a regular or extended cab, they are all 4 doors now. Who knows what it will cost by the time I am ready to buy.

Dave,

I'd check out Public Surplus (PublicSurplus.com) and / or All Surplus (AllSurplus.com) web sites. These are clearing houses for municipalities, state gov'ts. to clear property. Yep, that includes motor vehicles. I've seen some real scores on there. Now, there's a strategy to this. If you went on there now, you'd probably see the 'dogs' and leftovers from previous auctions. Don't give up. Keep cruising the site, like, once a week or so. Here's another tip. It's no secret information that the fiscal year for local and state governments, ends around July 1st of every year and usually extends to October 1st. If they don't spend their budgets, they lose them and that means no new vehicles for them. So they purchase new and sell the old at in-house auctions. Sometimes at ridiculous prices. Also, these vehicles are fleet maintained. Some are beat on and some aren't. I think the best videos come from Norfolk, VA DPW. Be aware, car dealers know this too. Check it out. There's some cool stuff out there.

Best of luck in the hunt.

It's so ridiculous. And I remember seeing on TV as a kid new cars for $1895.00

Well its is new truck day for me after all.
Special ordered back in January came in on Tuesday but it's been pouring rain here all week and I didn't want to drive it home in the nasty road spray. Lakeshore blue (new color this year), extended cab, 6'-9" std bed, leather seats, Z-71 pkg, 5.3L gas engine, and convenience pkg II
Heading to OBX next week 😎

Very nice! My 21 RST has the 5.3L and on a recent 600 mile trip …. All 65-75 mph highway speeds it got 21 MPG. Hard to complain about that.

Congrats!
