Just out of curiousity, could someone with a 1-A light sporter give me an actual weight? Rifle with scope and sling, please. If you could post your caliber, that would be nice too.

Thanks!

I can't help you specifically with your question but I toyed around for a bit contemplating and handling many and found them to be imbalanced. Too light out front given the weight of the mid and rear-sections. I suggest you handle a few in desired calibers and decide. Just my $.02.

Hmm. That would probably be alright, actually. I'm looking for something a "small-framed" shooter might be able to handle

My #1b 6mm balances right in front of the action; easy to carry. A little too heavy, though.

A 1A in .243Win will be about a half pound less than your 1B.

4' of barrel less, but add back in the sights.

A 1AB will be a bit less since it does not have sights. Don't think I've ever seen one in .243Win.

I have the 1B, 1A, RSI, and 1V. The IA IMO is the easiest for me to carry for long periods. None of these are true light weights, but as mentioned the 1AB I used to own was easy to carry and handled nice. I would guess that the 1A is about as heavy as your standard bolt gun, with scope and sling and a stock ammo sleeve. I only have one 1A and it is a stainless/walnut 35 Whelen, my primary Elk gun and favorite to carry. My 2 cents.

I have 1A rifles as light as 6 lb 2 oz - a .357 mag CHP overrun, and as heavy as 7 lb 4 oz - .243 Win. The wood density can account for as much as 4 oz variance or so, and the barrel weights vary according to caliber. For my shooting, no rifle handles or balances better than the 1A. The 22" barrel being perfect for stalking or hunting from a blind. These rifles just feel right in my hands, and they look terrific as well. The 26" barrels on the 1B and 1S models are just too long and front-heavy for good balance, and needlessly heavy to carry. A fully rigged 1A with sling and lightweight scope should be possible in the 7 1/2 to 8 lb range, depending on the caliber and wood density. It will make a fine and elegant hunting rifle for you.
