Now take a reamer to it and go 475 Turnbull... Just kidding of course but imagine what it would do out of a #1 "properly" loaded...

I have been thinking about the .475 Linebaugh Long, but in the Ruger No. 1, I can seat the bullets out farther anyway, effectively increasing powder capacity. However, as is, a bullet will completely pass through a bison side to side, leaving a huge hole. What more is needed.

When the really big-bore revolver rounds started coming out, I said that rounds like the .480 Ruger and .500 S&W would make fine carbine rounds. Nice to know that the folks at Ruger agree with me. Now, how about a lever or pump in this chambering?

And in a compact 16-20' inch barrel. The 500 would be used in dense cover or our Midwest woods. A short barrel. Not a long one.
