For anybody who has been looking for one of these, better grab this one as you may never see another... there are only 5 of these with an 87-prefix... After these 5 were made (87-81576 through 87-81580), Ruger decided that the model is not a Super Blackhawk (which was within the 87- prefix at the time), but it is a a Blackhawk, so they changed the catalog number, model number and the serial number prefix which went to 38-.

P.S.: The gun being auctioned in this lot was one of two (2 of the 5) that Kent Williams of Williams' Shooter Supply set back for himself.

I hope someone here was able to grab this one. I have a short bbl one from the 38 series, my favorite Ruger! The link doesn't let me see what it sold for. I was out of the running on it before it was listed anyway, having just bought a new truck! Bill in MA

I thought the second batch of SNs were in the 48 prefix, not 38 ??

I have a couple of the 4-5/8" guns in the 48 prefix and a couple 6.5" ones with the 87 prefix (one being the type with no barrel address). But I understand the 6.5" with 87 prefix is much more common (344 per RENE).

Your right, I went by the number stated above, just double checked mine....it is a "48-xxxxx". I wish I had the funds to have had a set of both. Thanks, Bill

It sold for $950.
Yes, everybody is correct... after these 5 with 87- prefix were made, they went to the 48- prefix.
