Is 8.5gr of unique with a 255 gr lead bullet in 45 colt to much for steady shooting in the new vaquero?

Both my Speer 13th edition and my Lyman Pistol and Revolver Handbook 2nd edition list 8.5 grains as the Maximum load with a 255 grain cast lead bullet. That load falls within SAAMI specs and is fine for a Colt SAA and it should be fine for a New Vaquero too. It ain't a cowboy load, it will let you know you are shooting something. I would not go anymore, both of those manuals list that as the Max load with Unique. With Smokeless, my own personal favorite 45 Colt load is just a tad less, 7.5 grains under a 250 grain cast lead bullet.

That load is fine for the new Vaquero. Another good one is 7.1 grains of W231.
