New to the forum, but I managed to pick up a new set of Ruger Wheels. Been working an obscene amount of hours but when I get some time off Ill be taking them to the range. A few friends have the SP101 that I liked so I decided to pick up my own.. as for teh 454, had a little run in with Mr Bullwinkle late last year out hiking, and knew I needed something bigger than the 45ACP I had been carrying. Hopefully Ill never need to use it, but the 454 should be enough to handle most of what N America can toss my way.

So far my current Rugers are limited to the rimfire category with rifles and pistol, so these were needed.

Hope no one minds me posting here, but I figured what better way for a newbie to say hello.

Welcome to the forum!

Nice pictures. That .454 should be a killer on both ends!

It would be interesting to see how much velocity you get from that short barrel compared to say, a 6" barrel. If you ever get a chance to chronograph it, let us know.

Welcome to Ruger Forum!

That's a nice set of revolvers you got. One will be great for packing around town to protect yourself from two-legged predators, and the other can go into the wilderness with you to stop anything big and tough that decides to cause trouble for you. They'll both offer you a lot of peach of mind, and both should last at least a lifetime, requiring very little maintenance while working reliably in all conditions.

Don't let them scare you off. I have a alaskan in 454 that is a smooth shooting pistol I really enjoy shooting. If anything it feels weak compared to my 500 S&W 4". I like the ability to use 45 colt as a light load in it. I have never used a 45 in mine only shot the 454's but its a fine shooting pistol and does a impressive job on paper.

Great picture showing the diffence of the guns. Makes it look like that .454 would hurt, comparetively speaking.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the photos, but the second was a bit disturbing. I make it a habit never to point a gun at myself unless the cylinder is hanging to the side, or the magazine is out and the slide locked back.

Call it self-preservation. My head has enough holes already. No need to add another.

(I forgot) Welcome to the forum!!!

Thanks guys. I am working all weekend and even Monday so it looks like next weekend at the earliest before anything can really happen, but good news about overtime means maybe more toys. Ill post back when I get a chance to shoot it.

On to a technical question. I see that trijicon makes a front sight for the SP101, Ill probably get it since several of my other pistols use them and only one has had issues (rear tube went out after a few months). Anyone have any issues with getting the front post swapped? Or recommend something else?

I already placed orders for a simplyrugged holster for the 454 and a crossbreed for the SP.
