I just recently purchased a Ruger MK III bull barrel and love it. It's a blued gun with the wood grips and I have added a red dot sight and couldn't be happier. In the first 550 rounds I had a few FTE issues as well as FTF problems. The FTF problems were maybe 2 per 100, not bad. The FTE problems were maybe 4 per 100, not bad also. I rounded the rear of the magazine ears and also removed the metal tab on the LCI and just shot 550 rounds with no issues wit the gun at all. Their were 3 rounds that were duds, but not bad for Remington Gold. I also zeroed the red dot in today and was killing the little pasties that you get with Shoot 'N See targets at 7, 15 and 25 yards. Love my new Ruger! :D

Man, I already got the "itis". Grandpa used to have an old Ruger Luger from way back, just talked to dad tonight and he remembers learning on that gun. Grandpa passed and an uncle now has it, so I had the itch to get one and I truly love it. I will, however, be purchasing a MK II s.s. target bull barrel. If anyone knows of one for sale, please tap me on the shoulder. See,......... I got "it". Is their any going back now?

Well, to push you over the edge into Rugeritis,,, go to the Classifieds here & post a WTB ad for the MKII. Or,, check out Gunbroker.com,, and you'll find one soon. Oh,, the Ruger was NEVER called a Luger. It did get called that by folks who didn't know better.

Welcome, Guitarguy! You are in the right place for solid information about the MK III. As a kid in the 1960's, I was jealous of my friend's new MK I. I think it cost his dad $39.50. It would take me over forty years to finally buy my own Ruger...the price has gone up like everything else. In my first few trips to the range, I was disappointed with FTE's/stovepipes. Then I found this forum.
I took out the LCI, tried different brands of ammo and ultimately sent the gun back to Ruger for some tweaking and those tricks all helped. I still had an occasional FTE so I read the posts here and installed a Volquartsen extractor. Today I shot over 300 rounds of Federal bulk with zero FTE's. I had one dud. Last week I shot some Remington gold to see if these folks at the forum knew their ammo. They did. I had numerous FTE's and duds.
Bottom line: the folks at this forum are eager to pass along their effective tips and experiences. A few lines up, RedLabel said it best!

since you kept mentioning "with the first 550" rounds I presume you were shooting 'bulk' ammo... the few problems you had were more than likely the ammo... nothing else.

I've noticed when I'm shooting bulk 22lr ammo even when the gun is working perfectly every 10th to 20th shot sounds different.
