New Ruger 50th Anniversary SS "Light Varmint Target" rifle with "10/22" SN......

I have been waiting for a while to get one of the Ruger 10/22s in the Special tapered SS varmint barrel configuration. After some searching by my LGS dealer, he found one for me. It has the 50th anniversary etching on the bolt.

When I picked it up this afternoon, I noticed that it had an interesting serial number.

The SN is 0010-00022. Now that I see this, I wonder if there is some collector out there who might pay me a premium for it. Any thoughts??? I am hesitant to shoot it or even take it out of the box..... :)

I would think that ~somewhere~ there is a person who likes 10/22s with "special" serial numbers, and would pay a premium.

How much of a premium? I have no idea.

The next problem is how to find that buyer.

Gunbroker.com, or another auction site would probably give you the most exposure.

Otherwise, just go out and shoot some tin cans with it!

Pretty neat number. What is your idea of a premium price. You can put a price on it and list it in the classified's. That is one way to find out who is willing to pay what. Also what it is worth to you to wait and find another one.

That is a tough call. These are hard to find and I have been searching for one for about 6 months. I'd hate to sell it and find that it can't be replaced. I may just hold on to it and mount up the Leupold rimfire scope that I have had ready to put on it.

At least this way, I will always be able to remember the serial number of the rifle.

It would probably take at least a $100 over what I paid for it to get me interested in selling it. I had to pay full retail as they are so hard to find now that the special limited edition run is over..... It may turn into a keeper.

what would you say

The link to my post .. I believe we are talking the same 10/22. Very cool serial number that you have. I haven't seen too many of these guns at all, unlike most 10/22 configurations out there. I'd hold on to that gun. I personally wouldn't pay more for the serial, but I wouldn't sell it either if I had it.. To me the cool factor is worth having more than a hundred bucks or so.

Are you sure it is 0010-00022 and not 0001-00022? The reason I ask is that when Ruger ran out of prefixes at 859-99999 they decided they needed to go to a new prefix format, so went to 0001-. You'd have thought that once they got to 0001-99999 they'd go to 0002-00000 and up, but nothing surprises me with Ruger.
Please send me a confirmation of your sn to my email address at [email protected]
Thanks!!

Chet. I'll take some photos of the serial number on the rifle and on the box for your records. This was a special run done for one of the distributors.

Limited production. Seems like it belongs on a dairy farm up in Maine or somewhere like that..... ;-)

Thanks for verifying that.
Yep...Ruger is going about there serial numbers in a goofy way. Since they started at 0001-00001 and apparently finished that one out....going to 0010-00001, they've already skipped 900,000 serial numbers (prefixes 0002 through 0009).
If they keep doing that, they're going to be in the same dilemma they were in before (running out of prefixes, and the reason they went to 0001 in the first place).

I don't think that they have finished out 0001-00001 to 0001-99999 yet. I think that they are using the other 4-digit prefixes for separate firearms or special model runs.

Could they really have built out 99,999 10/22s since the first of the year???

Notice on the box label....This rifle is called a "Hawkeye - Matte Blue". What's up with that???
