New rifle, non Ruger, but a keeper!

I just traded for this rifle with another forum member. I made a quick trip to backyard range this morning. I could only set the target at 50 yds because of fresh cut hay on the ground. I do not like to walk in it, will bale it tomorrow.

This is a J C Higgins, Sears, model 50, 30/06 made in 1952. It is built on a FN Beligian Mauser action.

This is 4 shots at 50 yds, I believe the 100 yd accuracy has lots of potential. This was factory WW 150 gr PSP ammo.

Nothing like a good FN Mauser action. Great actions. I have one made into a 25-06.

Thanks fellas! I am thinking of a Weaver 2-7 from that period. I also am considering re-stocking it, but it shoots so good i am afraid I will mess that up. Malcolm

Yeah on them old steel-tube Weavers.
To my way of thinking, a nice old gun like you got deserves a nice old scope. Anything marked china or japan just wouldn't be right.

IIRC, Weaver also made their scopes for JC Higgins as an in house brand. I'd get one of those, all original & period correct. And you'll pay a touch less for the Higgins marked Weaver also.
