I am looking to put a nice set of grips on my New Model Blackhawk. Who out there is making them? The black plastic grips that came on the gun are very functional, but I want to dress it up a bit. ;)

I tried the search engine, but it is useless!

Try the Ruger website. They have some great looking grips. Also, try Ebay I recently bought some gorgeous Ajax thumbrest rosewood grips for my MKIII target. They have the Ruger logo and all.

Thanks for all the responses guys. But it looks like I may have a problem tying to get a new set of grips for my Blackhawk. I have a New Model Super Blackhawk with a 7 & 1/2" barrel. I noticed that one of the sites said that his grips would only fit a 4 & 1/2" and 5 & 1/2" barreled Blackhawk (?!?!?!).

These Ruger guns have so many different grip frames that it makes my head hurt!!!

When in doubt, check with Ruger. AFAIK all of the New Model Blackhawk grips will fit. Just for fun I went out to EBay and looked for myself, and I am intrigued by the wooden finger groove grips, but I hate to change the original appearance. BTW, they do have a bunch of New Model original grips out there. I would get some plain rosewood Ruger grips if my New Model 357 came with the plastic, but I have a 1980 issue in mint condition, and I plan on leaving it alone. I do hate the plastic grips.

Look again :D

The short barreled Supers used the NM Blackhawk grip frame whilst the long barreled Supers used the larger Dragoon style grip frame. We both offer them.

Are you saying that my Super Blackhawk Hunter grips will fit my new Model Super Blackhawk??? I think I will try to swap them around and check it out. Thanks.

I was at your site and didn't see any checkered grips. Do you have them?

I'm not skilled in the art of checkering, you'd have to go to someone else for that. The SBH Hunter uses the same grips as the 7-1/2" and 10" Super Blackhawks, it just has a rounded trigger guard.

Well I found out that the Blackhawk Hunter grips do not fit the New Model blackhawk guns. However, My old model Vaquero grips will fit very nicely. so I am going to be fine.

I have a set of custom made false Ivory grips and also a set of gunfighter grips in Rosewood. All works out for me

That's because it is a Super Blackhawk Hunter, and not a Blackhawk Hunter, although some were erroniously labeled that way IIRC.

If you look in the lounge you will find a member's post regarding Ruger memorbilia. I think the name is "croydon gal" or something like that. She has factory cocobolo New Model Blackhawk grips at a very good price.

Carl is correct, both the Hunter and Super Blackhawk with the square back triggerguard (7½" & 10½" barrels) take the same grips, regardless of what is stamped on the frame. They do not fit the standard Blackhawk or 4 5/8" & 5½" Super Blackhawk grip frames.
