How do you remove the grip cap on the back strap of the Max 9?

I would assume it is the same like the lc9, but I have never done that in the Max 9. Pry it out with a flat screw driver. I may be wrong though. Have you tried youtube it?

The owners manual doesn't mention the grip cap.

There is a round indentation/hole at the base of the back strap just above the grip cap, and I wonder whether inserting a punch might work. I probably need to be careful here since it's a plastic composite.

There is a youtube channel that shows MCarbo parts for several different guns. I believe they have done some trigger kits for it. I am sure if you try youtube and search max 9 and mcarbo, it will populate what videos they have made. The trigger job for sure will show how to get that off.

The Max 9 owners manual identifies and illustrates part number 4 as a "grip cap." It is a small insert at the base of the back-strap. Looking at the Max 9 back-strap itself, it appears to be part of the molded handle/grip and not removable.

It has just a little play at the base ( and I mean very little and in fact, may be normal) and I was thinking a new one might fit better/tighter. It's probably insignificant for all practical purposes.

Bingo!! I inserted a 3/32 punch in the small hole at the base of the back-strap and with a little force the grip cap came out. It went back in with a little snap. All is well.
