Hi Everyone!
My wife and I went to Reno last week to celebrate our anniversary. I travel a lot so miles covered the airfare, and her brother, who lives out there, has a gazillion comps in the casino he frequents, so the room was free (one man's vice is another man's windfall!). We brought an amount of cash equivalent to what we'd have paid anyway for the trip to use as our gambling/eating budget. Being a cheap bastage, I found that I hated losing money, so I started a "gamble a dollar, put another dollar in my pocket" routine. By the end of the week, I had a nicely stuffed pocket. Arriving back home, I made a bee-line to my local gunshop intent on buying a wheel gun, but not really having decided on any particular model. Well, that, or a commander-sized 1911.
I didn't have the cash or the desire to spring for a Kimber, so I started looking over their revolvers. The three that caught my eye were a pair of 4" GP100s, one blue and the other SS and a SS SP101. The GPs were far more comfy in my hand than the SP and I already have my LCP for daily carry, so I focused in on the GPs. I checked the cylinders for lockup tightness and found the blue was much tighter than the SS. Also didn't really like the brushed SS appearance (the seemingly random direction of the fine brush lines in particular). Loved the grips, the balance, the just-right heft of it, and now it's my new baby. Took it apart to give it a good cleaning and light oiling, and tucked it away for today's ride to work.
Just took it to a range nearby my workplace at lunch with some WWB .38spl and some Independence .357mag. Niiiiiiice. Really nice. I'm already putting it just behind my Taurus PT1911SS in my 'sweetest shooter' pecking order, and ahead of my Beretta 92F. The LCP maintains its place as my 'only shoot it when I gotta shoot it' gun. The .38spl rounds had almost no recoil, and consistently were an inch or two high and right, both at 7 and 15 yrds. I'll need to adjust the rear sights accordingly and go back (had neither the right screwdrivers nor the manual with me, and this was just a 'get to know you' session anyway). The .357s were a bit more of a handful to shoot, but not unpleasant - just something I'll need to get more used to. I did catch myself flinching a bit, especially when firing DA. Oh, darn, I guess I'll need to shoot more!
I'm looking forward to many years of enjoyment out of the GP. That is if my wife doesn't decide that it's hers once she finds out about it and gives it a try, that is!

PS - I had never used Independence ammunition. Who makes them, anyway? I notices all the .357s in my box used Blazer brass, while the guy next to me had a box of their .40 and they were all Speer brass.
