when did Ruger start making Stainless Steel single six's? I saw an auction for what the seller claims to be a Single six Stainless fluted magnum Old Model cylinder . here is the pic of the cylinder. I have never seen a stainless old model, and I have never seen a fluted stainless new model cylinder ,only unfluted. Is this incorrect info on the cylinder?

This is a job for the Red Eagle News Exchange! The RENE's Ruger Reference details ALL the interesting/odd/rare variations of those fascinating old Rugers!

Yes, the early Stainless examples, up until about mid '76, could be found with fluted .22 Mag cylinders.

Oh, and to get "hooked up" with the RENE just send an email to the Editor and Ruger Expert in Charge. CHRugers at AOL dot COM

Great info. It could be a New Model then. Were there any Old Model Stainless guns? I will check into this RENE info. Thanks

No, not could be a New Model. It be a New Model cylinder!

Now, it could also be "plated"..........just not "Factory".

Nada, Stainless Steel didn't appear until after the introduction of the New Models.

yes, it may be a new style mag cylinder in an "old model" gun that may have been refinished in 'Metalife SS' by us, over the years , through Ron Mahovsky, so one has to do their homework, there ARE "old models" out there that LOOK like stainless steel to the average person.....so NEVER say never......and yes, people have also put stainless cylinders, in old model guns for the "look" ( they call this 'pinto'....) I call it "pimping ones ride"
If one looks back to the the 'special edition' Roy Rogers guns that were done with permission from the Rogers family , Ron did up a bunch of 'Super Bearcats' ) old models, all steel construction) and finished them in the 'metaliff SS finish, and yes, they LOOK like stainless guns, way before their time...sorry I do not have one or a picture even as this was way before I could even spell "digital camera...."
