Yes!!! 40-21296 was my gun till I sold it to Richard in Maine. That gun was as close to mint as any used gun could be. That and 40-21297 is a very rare rare rare one of a kind consecutive pair!!!

I notice that the grips have different ruger symbol colors. What is/makes the difference. Someone pointed out that my hardware was stainless so they couldn't be org from the factory.

Pharmuse, the date of manufacture and shipment determines which Ruger Medallion is correct. Stainless hardward was not used in Old Model grip panels. I guess it is possible that a gun could have been shipped really late up into the new model period and have New Model grip panels....only the shipping date in a letter from Ruger would validate it. If it was shipped in the normal time period a quick change of panels would make your rare BKH42B correct grip wise.
While I like all of the above guns, I too really like the S47B, extremely rare gun!! As most of y'all know, "ILUV44S"

Don't forget that there were "squashed chicken" grip panels that used "silver" birds but had blue/black screws and escutcheons in the last of the three-screw era . . . 1971/1972. These are in use on the two .41's we see here. Very possibly correct for these guns.

Yes the Brass Frame Blackhawks that were shipped late in the 3 screw era had the squashed chicken grip panels with the blue hdwe. As Flattop44 pointed out that the Super Blackhawks that was without a digit prefix serial number, will have the Black Eagle grips as they were shipped in 1967 and 1968. I guess it's possible that there may be a Brass Frame Super with the Black Eagle grips with the "Neck Feathers" out there someplace???? 8). If your Brass Frame has the silver Eagle grips with Stainless Steel Hdwe. then it would have to have been shipped in 1974. This is the time that Ruger started to use the Stainless hdwe.

Street, please clarify this for me . . . I thought the "silverbirds" with stainless escutcheons came out in 1973, after the brief run of "squashed chickens".

:)
The squashed chicken grips came out in late 71 to early 72 and lasted into some of the early new model guns. The Silverbirds with the stainless steel hdwe. came out after the Stainless steel guns came out and that was in 1974. RENE list an early Stainless 357 with serial number 32-52346 which would make the shipping date in 1974. Once they started making the stainless guns they changed the hdwe. in the grips to stainless for both the blue guns and the stainless. After the stainless guns came out they had quit making and shipping the Old Models for at least a year and closer to a year and a half. So there should not be any Old Model Brass Frame gun shipped with stainless steel hdwe. in the grips.

Yes...Street is correct on this except for one point. Stainless escutcheons didn't start showing up on stainless guns until a few months after stainless production started. Then the stainless screw bagan to be used even after that.
But when the stainless escutcheons began to be used, Ruger used them on all SA models, blue and stainless. Same with the stainless screw.
