I've always liked my mother-in-law. She & my father-in-law have been divorced since before I met my wife. She has always been nice & agreeable & has never to my knowledge meddled in our relationship. She lives about a half hour South of us just North of Macon, Georgia. She has always taken care of her own business. She has owned & ran a trailer park since before my wife & I got married & has some investment property. She is 75 & lives alone.
Sunday night she spent the night at my sister-in-law's. Monday unbeknownst to us she had a stroke & a heart attack. Apparently she couldn't call anyone for help because she couldn't find her phone. Tuesday she started trying to make her way to her neighbors for help-crawling. Where she lives they broke the land up into (if I'm not mistaken) 3-5 acre lots. Tuesday night storms came through & it rained hard. Wednesday afternoon her neighbors found her by the fence & called the ambulance. She is currently in the hospital. They are saying in a day or two they will send her to rehab. From what my wife is telling me she is capable of walking. She does not currently have the use of one of her arms. Her speech is difficult to understand. My wife has been saying for a while it was time for her to move in with someone else & not be alone. We are praying for her recovery, for healing.

For whatever it is worth. While I do not like Siri or Alexa as I tend to think of them as spies this is one circumstance where having an Alexa set up in the house might be good. If not capable of making it to or finding your phone if you can just speak I believe it would call for help.

I am sorry to hear that. Tuesday's storms were rough. Sending prayers for her recovery.
My grandmother (years ago) in her 80s at the time I think, fell outside (off a ladder!) and broke her hip. She laid there for quite a while before someone came home and saw her.

Prayers up for her full recovery. Years back I looked into one of those push button devices for summoning help. My mom had a fall and later a minor stroke. All require, even Siri or Alexa some input from the individual. I settled on the most expensive option, 24 hour live in care. What it cost would turn your hair white. But the peace of mind was well worth it.

First off, prayers up for her recovery!

Falls or other health issues like this have taken many lives, as well as causing a lot of health issues for those who survive such things. It's not an uncommon occurrence. In fact,, Miss Penny's mother fell or had some form of episode in her house last year,, laid in the floor for an undetermined amount of time,, (2-24 hours,) before being found. After that, she never went home. She only lasted about 5 months.

I know of several folks who had similar things happen over my time around this planet. Sadly,, as we age,, such things can & do happen.

Those "Life Alert" devices can be a good thing to have for many.

Alexa saved my wife's aunt's life. She was able to call my mother-in-law when she fell. It was the second main reason we got it for her. The first was to remind her to take her meds and to eat (dementia is a Rosie O'Donnell).

Prayers from here too.

My Mo-in-Law had a help pendant of some kind, but she was stubborn and hated wearing it. We lost her some years ago. Don't know if she had used the pendant if it would have made a difference, as she insisted when the time came, she just wanted to go. And she did. But of course, she was 94. There's a whole bunch of difference between 94 and 75.

God bless you all.

I went & saw her today for the first time since this has happened. Working 6 days a week makes it a little harder to get around. She is improving. The second day she was in the hospital my wife said she saw a sign & excitedly said, "I can read". My wife did not know she had lost the ability. Today she was proud that she was able to move 2 of her fingers she has been unable to move. It is difficult to understand her when she speaks but from what my wife is telling me her speech is improving. They put a feeding tube in her the other day because they said she couldn't swallow strongly enough. The doctor did not want what she is trying to eat or drink to go into her lungs & cause pneumonia. From what she has said thoughts of her family, children, grandchildren & great grandchild were what kept her going to get to help & stay alive. I believe she will pull through this. It will just take a while. She has agreed to live with my sister-in-law at least temporarily. I guess we will see. They are waiting to see how well she can swallow when they take the tube out.
My wife told me she had been asking where I was so I felt I needed to go. She started crying when she saw me & trying to tell me everything that has happened. Humbling.

Edited to Add: Thank you everyone that has prayed. I am going to continue lifting her up.

Sorry to hear about your mother in law's condition. My 94 year old blind wheelchair bound Mom lives with us and Alexa has Ben a godsend, Mom can make phone calls, ask for time and temp or ask to hear the music of her choice. Steve

I like the good news update.

When you go see her again,, you tell her there's a whole bunch of good folks praying for her. She sounds like a sweet but tough lady!
