Found this two weeks ago in a gun shop in Nor Cal. RENE dates it to 1953. Used but not abused. I doubt that muzzle break was shipped with it. It is the tappered ear variation & it goes well with my normal ear variation. It has the sweetest trigger pull that I have ever experienced on a Mark I Target pistol! A call to Ruger Records is in order. I will report out ASAP!

That's a great gun and Rare! RENE states about 1400 made. I have serial number 27984 with the Flat on the bottom. See picture below. How close is my serial number to yours?

street,

Your T514 is a bit better condition than mine. Nice!

I'm not sure what you mean by "Flat on the bottom"? Please elaborate.

Mine is s/n 28349.

The tapered bolts were made in two pieces. The ears were pressed onto the rest of the bolt. Hold the gun out in front of you. Look at the back of the bolt. You will see a circle with either the top of the circle flat or the bottom of the circle flat. They were made both ways. As you can see by the picture of mine it has the flat on the bottom.

28878 and 74437 normal bolt hinged boxes

29613 flat bottom
29157 flat top two piece boxes

RPM: Can you tell for sure whether the box for 74437 is original to the gun (SN penciled on end?). Kinda late for a hinged T514, but not surprising I guess.
Also, send me a PM and I'll let you know who had #29156. Probably won't be that hard to track down.

T.A. WORKMAN,

Thanks!

Actually, when I walked into the gun shop, the owner held it up & asked if I had one! So, really I think it found me (?). Got lucky, as I almost didn't stop by the shop that day (it's about an hour from my home & I was behind on finishing up my other errands). But, I'm glad I managed to squeeze in the time to do so.

As you can see from the photo, my T514 (s/n 28349) tapered ear bolt has the flat on the top of the circle. A call to Ruger Records today revealed it shipped on November 1953. If any addtional info from Ruger is provided, I will share it. I really doubt that it shipped with the muzzle break.

Congrats! Very nice pistol!

I have 29855 (tapered); 27811 and 74423 and, like you, would love to find a hinged T514 box. Good luck to us both!!

Here are the two types of boxes.

Chad, Number 29613 you have listed in your notes. That gun has a hinged box. Number 29157 has two piece box. The other two T514'S are in two piece boxes but were not original to the guns.. Number 28878 is fitted with muzzle brake.
