Man where do I start? I had a kick a$$ day! After a week long wait my Mini arrived. I could not have asked for a better day. The weather was beautiful, so I loaded up the family and we went to Ft. Smith for ammo. Bought 220 rds of Monarch 55gr steel cased garbage rds as well as 40 rds of Hornady Varmit Express V-Max ammo.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out my rifle came with a flash supressor. It was not listed in the description or in the images. I think maybe Buds gunshop assembles the rifles themselves and made a mistake in my favor. I think they assembled my stock on the weapon that came with an upgraded barrel and straight synthetic stock. It was there version of tactical rifle with upgraded barrel and suppresor.
Set up targets on a friends ranch and first 20 rds of the Monarch garbage ammo was within the main circle of a 100 yd. Remington small caliber rifle target. I was impressed as this was the first 20 rds and only thing I did to the gun was clean it with M-pro and lube it with Milcomm.
Cleaned the weapon after the first 20 not out of necessity but concern about how dirty the monarch ammo was. It was disgusting, residue smelled like burnt plastic and was soot black.
We finished off the day firing at targets of various ranges and shooting positions. I am impressed with the accuracy of this paricular rifle. Must have gotten a barrel bored with a fresh bit! My previous Mini had nothing on this and a few of my friends aggreed it out shot thiers. This is with probably the cheapest ammo available.
I am not sure if I want to scope the rifle, run a Red Dot, or keep the open sights. My family has vision problems however mine are still as good as they were 20 years ago(knock on wood) so I am tempted to keep M1 carbine style peep setup.
I do plan on getting mounts for my surefire flashhlight and possibly a laser just because I can. I have more mounting rails than I know what to do with.
I will most likely get a folding front handle next. I saw one owned by another forum member and it looks good. I was imaging it being there today and I think it would be comfortable as well as a good way to stabilize any longer range shots I want to take.
Well I gotta get some sleep. I have a 870 Wingmaster comming in tomorrow and clays calling my name.
Happy shooting
