I met Robert Horton at my church. We seemed to hit it off right away. He knew some old western songs, and would sort of sing a few bars to see if I could identify. He played "Home on the Range" at one of our Senior Saints luncheons. Not only that, but prompted me to sing it before our group.
His wife was in bad shape with Alzheimer's disease, and some time back she died. But Robert joined us, he called Nita "my bride", at our table at the luncheon. Back in January I sent him a subscription to True West magazine, for which he reimbursed me. But we compared notes on old west stuff, cattle drives, gunfights, what not. I invited him to have coffee with another friend and me on Friday mornings.
Robert died Monday at age 68.
