Congrats. Look forward to hearing more about how yours shoots!

I got a NIB same as yours too. You can Find out more about it here : Ruger Old Army 5 1/2" fixed sights. How many?

Waiting on shooting mine, until I know more about it. Meanwhile, I have my adjustable sights 7 1/2" Blued Old Army to take up the slack :) . Your in for some fun! Just make sure you clean it up 'good' before putting away after shooting. Remember SS is not rust proof, just rust resistant.

Nice gun, nothing like starting at the top. A highly desired model of the best/strongest cap and ball revolver ever made. Too bad Ruger ever discontinued it, they should have kept it as a tribute to Bill. ED

Wow nice mods, I do have a question on the conversion cylinders. I hear use cowboy loads only?????! Now I have a dillon progressive and load for alot of calibers including 45acp. In my ruger old army i heard that you should only use lead instead of jacketed bullets because of the rifling in the barrel designed for lead only, where if you used jacketed bullets it would wear own. First I ever heard that. Also is the powder blackpowder only? My acp load is 5gr bullseye with a 185gr nosler hp bullet which is probably a no-no in this gun. Need some clarification here guys.

Not quite sure on all of this but will try to answer.
First off the barrel is the same as all the rest of Ruger 45s. So it don't care what you stuff down it.
I can't remember what the max FPS is for the conversion cylinders but you can go to their web site and see. Around 800 fps or so I think. I have shot mine with 250gr and a full case of 3F and that is a stout load by any means. :D Yes I also shoot smokeless in mine.
The short 45 round you see is a 45 Cowboy Special. It is the same as a 45acp but has a rim. Makes it a lot better for shooting black powder and cheaper to load. Holds about 23 gr of Goex 3F which is what I load in C&B Cyl.
The Ruger frame and Cylinder is as stout as the other Ruger 45s
