I rarely hunt with a rifle (almost exclusively archery) but figured I would try out one of my long range 308 handloads.

I shot this girl at 527 yards with an 18" AR10 using a handloaded 195 grain Sierra Tipped Matchking. She was bedded down on an old logging flat with half a dozen other doe. One of the heaviest doe I have killed in several years. She had more fat on her than any deer I have killed in the last several years....(bad weather coming?)

I watched them for about 15 minutes before she stood up to stretch. She dropped in her tracks and then slid down the hill a few yards. The exit hole is the size of a silver dollar, fantastic performance.

N-550 Powder with magnum rifle primer

Optic is a Sig Tango4 4-16×44

I am officially tagged out for the season.

Kudos! Heck of a shot!

I prefer to hunt with my handgun,, but watching the weather,, and knowing my time may be limited,, I do try & get out with my crossbow or my muzzleloader. This year,, no crossbow hunting due to many things. Then just 2 days with a muzzleloader. Now,, I'm being very selective for my last buck tag,, and I have a few doe tags I can use.

Trying my hand at salt curing. I have both rear legs packed in salts and seasonings
