This is my best buddy in the entire world, my grandson Tristan James. He turned 12 yesterday. His grandmother an I have raised him since he was a few weeks old and he's the best thing to ever happen to us. Anyway, we got out one day this past summer an I let him shoot some of my toys. This is him firing, for the first time, my Model 29-2, with very light loads of course. He was a bit nervous at first but after the first round he realized it wasn't gonna kill him. I think he's hooked.

I let him shoot my Springfield EMP-4 in 40 cal first. Thank God I had the good sense to put only one round in it as it got completely away from him. Don't know which one of us it scared the most.

Tom, Good on you and your wife for taking on the responsibility of raising your grandson.

On the topic of kids and large bore revolvers: I raised two sons and one daughter. I had all of them shooting .22's when they were still puppies. By the time the boys were about 12 and hands large and strong enough to handle big bore handguns, I had then shooting my old model Super Blackhawk with full power loads one handed. At 14, my daughter joined the club. Kids are flexible and don't fight the recoil. All three of them are still active shooters and hunters and are passing these skills on to their children.

I too have a "special"12y/o buddy (grandson Scott) who has a SR22 I bought him which he shoots pretty well. He also has shot his grandma's Smith & Wesson .38Spl and did well with it. He LOVES shooting my AR556 and I'm sure he'll have one of his own before too long if I have anything to say about it. He and I put a scope on his Ruger 10/22 last weekend and when the weather co-operates we'll go zero it in. He and i were reloading .44Mag loads last weekend - we'll load him up some "mild" .44Mag reloads to shoot next time we go shoot. Kids are great - grandkids are awesome.

I gave one of my grandsons a Ruger P95DC. He taught his wife how to shoot it.
I gave another of my grandsons a RugerSR1911. He carries it on the job.
I am waiting for my great grandkids to get big enough to shoot. But if I don't
make it, The guns are in my will for my grandsons, they will see that my great
grandsons (and daughters) will get them.

That is really great! I took my son's 18 yr. old step son out to my range and let him shoot my .357 revolver. Was his first time shooting any kind of hangun and he did well with .38 Specials and later looked like a pro with the .357 Magnum loads.
Enjoy your grand kids everytime you get the chance!

My 10 (soon to be 11 year old) daughter doesn't seem as interested in firearms at this point as her older sister. I have been letting my older daughter (12) shoot my old Glenfield .22 semi-auto. I don't have a big bore revolver but so far she has shot my SR 1911 .45 acp,, Ruger P94 .40, XD-40 and Dan Wesson model 15-2 loaded with .38 special. I do as you said & only load one round at a time. The first time she shot my SR 1911 she turned to me & said, "Wow!" Then she grinned from ear to ear.
