So going from some info given from my last post and researching my manuals I made up 3 loads using standard Starline brass and trimming the flex tip
to be flush with bullet giving a 1.590-1.600 COL using the crimp groove.
The loads were shot thru my Bisley BH with 5.5 barrel and speed data recorded with the Magneto Speed unit.
The shooting distance was 20 ft. from the 6x6x16 Clear Ballistics FBI certified gel block and outside temp. was 46 F.
All loads completely penetrated the 16 inch block with Load 1 stopping in 2 1/2 magazines in block backstop. Load 2 stopped in the first magazine and 3rd load in 2 magazines
Load 1 was 9.5 Unique
Load 2 was 20 gr. of Alliant 2400
Load 3 was 22.3 gr. of Alliant 2400
Load pressures? The first load should be within 14000 psi according load data from similar 200 gr. JHP loads.
Loads 2 and 3 most likely in the Ruger only range. Anyone with access to Quick Load could run the numbers but I didn't notice any issues with case removal.
The primer was just a bit flattened on load 3 compared to the other 2 loads.
From my results I like the Test Load 2 with about same expansion at a lower speed. Expansion was .650 with Load 2 and .665 with Load 3.
I do have many other loads of 250-255 gr. lead RNFP and SWC plus XTP 250 gr. bullets for most general uses for my .45 Colt revolvers SA and DA. but wanted
to try a 200 JHP to see results. With bullets hard to come by or on long delays I was happy to find the FTX bullets on the shelf at my LGS. Bought the 3 boxes of 50 each he had. Not much else there.
Going to try that Load 2 in my Henry 45 Colt Carbine too !
