I'd be happy to have my high-school Monte back. Sadly, the pics I took of mine back in the day have gone missing, but this car from one of the auction sites is a close match to it. Only difference is that the car in the photo is a SS 454 version, while mine "only" had the 402. It was still plenty fast, and had pretty much all the other options.
Never owned a muscle car. Mostly I liked motorcycles. Norton Commando was my favorite. If I had the opportunity to own a muscle car it would be the Ford Cobra 427 or the GT40.
That add must have bee late 68 or 69, low miles noted. But in my area in '72 or 3 nice used muscle would be be priced in the mid to high teens. Vettes, Hemi's & Shelby's a few hundred more.
Heres mine, 1966 Corvette, 427-4 speed. 62k org miles. drive it a few times every summer to a few car shows. wife and I enjoy a nice ride out for a pizza on a nice Alaskan summer day. this thing is sick to drive!.... MR. DS
I had a few muscle cars back in the day. The prices listed in the ad are really great now but back in the day, most of us made significantly lower income and the prices would have been high back then. I bought my third car, a 1965 Mustang GT Fastback 3 speed in 1969 for $600.00. It had a couple small bodywork issues and I re-painted it within the first year but it was a very reliable and fun car. So, different times, different financial.
I've had quite a few collectable cars over the years and now, in retirement, I still have 2. A 1972 Cutlass 442 with a 455, Outside Air Induction, Tubo 400 with Hurst dual gate among the options. I've owned it 24 years and just finally painted it this year. I also have a stock 1976 Corvette that was my cousin's. I bought it after he passed away.
Mine was a'71 Demon 340. The little graphic of the demon with a pitchfork had my mom thinking I'd bought a devil car. Well that thing would bedevil 350 Novas pretty regularly. Stocker, of course. I was like that town in Wisconsin that is pronounced 'me no money'.
I was more into trucks and Jeeps when I was a teenager. But if was picking from that list, being an old Ford man, I would have to go with one of the Shelby GT 500s. 428 Cobra Jet and a 4-speed? Heck yeah!
'Way back in the day, my next-door neighbor guy gave me a ride in his '62 Vette, convertible. I still consider it the prettiest car ever made, and would give "I don't know what" to get one today.
