Opens today. Just heard Son's farm pickup go rumbling past on the way to Grand Daughter's 'deer wagon'. They had a couple of choices but I suggested the closer, more easily accessible blind. GD tends to get distracted and isn't a bloodthirsty killer like her Aunt was at that age so her hunt may last 2 hours or 45 minutes depending on which way the clouds are moving. Oh well, at least she's a little bit interested.
Before her Brother outgrew the 'youth' designation, I hunted with GD and we had a pretty good time of it. Things like a young bobcat @ 50', bucks fighting in the harvested bean field, a coyote digging for mice, you know--the GOOD stuff.

No shooting. They did see a lot of deer and several bucks but none she wanted to shoot within range.(300 AAC is range challenged).
Saturday evening, they had at least 10-12 deer within 50' but all were does, fawns, or small bucks. Son commented that they did see the big buck that had shown up on the trail cams several times. The big boy was traveling a weed line through the stubble about 400 yards from any sort of cover. Smart buck. If you can't stay in the cover--stay a long way away from the cover.
