MO distracted driving enforcement

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Been a thing in IL for a few years I think.
Some have said the fine is in the $100 range for first offense.

Has been a deal in Ky for a while, but just like I might exceed the speed limit, folks still playing with phones while driving.

Made a hard decision to stop riding my motorcycle due to health issues, but probably a better reason would have been due to the increased amount of distracted drivers on the road today.

It's not just the average Joe driver who's guilty of distracted driving. Three years ago, I was nearly rear ended by a State Hwy Patrol trooper who was holding his phone at the top of his steering wheel (and I assume texting). When he swerved to avoid hitting the grain wagon I was pulling, he crossed the centerline into the path of a loaded school bus. Fortunately for all involved, the bus driver was aware and used all of the shoulder while pulling a panic stop to avert a head on collision.
As soon as I could, I called the MO Troop B headquarters and reported the trooper's behavior. Next opportunity I got, I braced the Hwy Patrol public information officer (in public no less) over the policies concerning their road cops' use of phones. :devilish:

The law has been in effect for a while here but it seems to have made no difference. About 1/3 of the cars you see seems to have someone driving while talking on their phones.

We have that law and a lot of cops. Because of the tourism industry most traffic laws are not enforced here. Unless it's ticket day at the end of the month, that day cops pull over people left and right.

I followed a guy the other night who was swerving across the oncoming lane and changing speeds, when I got closer to him I could see he was holding a phone in his right hand.

Been the law here for years...That's mostly been ignored & unenforced. I've seen numerous cops, including a State Trooper, poking around on a smartphone while driving. 😳

I did a ride along with a KY state trooper for half a shift back a few years ago for their citizen's academy. The trooper I was asigned to was on the phone multiple times. He did not text and never called out but received numerous calls during that 4 ride.
