I hunted Putnam County opening weekend and it was so quiet that I wondered if season was actually open

The turnout of hunters seemed very low in my home county in Texas, too. The hotels used to fill up with hunters. They were all but empty this year. I guess the cost of hunting just got so high people quit.

We were very conservative during the main deer season--waiting to see how the elk hunt went. Home from New Mexico and the freezers are packed so no more deer for us BUT the alternative methods season opens 12/24 and we have lots of tags left. Planning to donate 7-8 deer to Share the Harvest and feed some hungry folks in the county.
