I have a standard 6 7/8 tapered barrel MKIII that is having frequent (1-2, sometimes more, per mag) light strikes. It's been an issue since I got it a while back and I've been trying to shoot it more when I go out to the range, so I'd like to get it running better than that. Any suggestions?

Pull the bolt and clean any dirt or grease out, and relube with a light aerosol oil like Rem Oil. Check to make sure there aren't any burrs in the firing pin slot and that the firing pin is square and not peened.

I did that just before the range trip the other day. Even used RemOil.

Will pull it apart again and give it another look-see, may have missed something.

It most likely needs to be stripped down and cleaned. The MK III's magazine disconnect just adds another place for dirt and powder to build up between itself and the hammer and can slow the hammer down.

Do the other cases look like they have been firmly struck? Are you trying different ammo? Is the ammo old or in a big bulk pack?

Ammo that is out of round or has a damaged bullet will take energy from the firing pin as it seats in the chamber, foreign made ammo often has much harder brass cases, old or cheap bulk pack ammo can easily have priming compound defects, especially if it has been subjected to high heat.
