I just noticed what looks like a jagged hairline crack (1/2 to 3/4 inch long) on the upper surface of the firing pin (the surface facing the recoil spring.) I have put about 4000-5000 rounds of mostly Federal bulk through this MK III. Has this happened to anybody else's MK III?
Do you think I should replace it myself or do I have to send the gun to Ruger so they can check the fit and length? Thanks for any and all advice, folks.

I'd call Ruger,, explain what you've found,, and I bet they'll send you a replacement for free. No fitting should be required.
