A friend just got a Turnbull case colored MK II with 10" bull barrel and was heading to the range today so naturally I got my 86 MK II 10" bull barrel out to join him. I don't shoot my MK II often, probably been 4-5 years since it's last outing so when I got home and began cleaning the pistol I was quite surprised when I realized my slide had turned PLUM. Has anyone else had their slides turn plum?

Not a slide, but the loading gate on my Single Six Bisley has turned plum.

That's a purdy plum BOLT. :D (Ruger prefers them to be called a bolt.)

Yes,, I've seen parts turn plum color while the rest of the gun not turn. It's all in the mix of the metal and how it reacts (later) with the blueing.

Yes, they sometimes do. I have an older S&W and the barrel has turned a slightly purple shade while the rest of the gun hasn't. I had one gunshow "expert" argue me that my barrel had been reblued because of the color. It hasn't, it's just turned that way over the years.

Either the heat treat or ,not enough time in the bluing tanks,,and yes normally any metals that are plum are a sign of a reblue, but in the case of Ruger chrome moly "batch" ( mix for castings) or like old Winchester, high chromium will not allow the metal to take a good ,proper blue........:rolleyes:;)
