Can anyone tell me what to look for when buying a used replacement stock for my 580- Mini-14. I understand the 180- stocks are different and will not work, but a lot of sellers do not know what they have. How can I tell by looking at it if it is for the 580 series?

The early 180 and possibly some of the 181 the front of the forend was shallower, they had the wood top fore-end piece...the later versions (182-186)were all pretty much the same, had the wider black plastic handguard, back when we were doing them ,( Had the shop) So a 580 or the newer ones like the "tactical' I have no clue as to their inletting setup...the obviously the blued guns had blue liners and side screws and the stainlless ones were that, stainless...the mini -30, the cutout for the magazine well is tapered at the front, the MIni-14 is rectangular..........
you can try and put up a picture of just what the stock (Liner-inside) looks like, does the hand guard snap onto the barrel like the older ones????

I was meaning photos of the INSIDE of the stock, showing the liner set up etc as noted in his other postings the stock in question (a Boyds??) does NOT show the metal liner locking screws in about the area that shows ,has the cracks??? I am curious as to the inletting of this new of a Mini model stock setup.......have not seen, touched, or used, any Mini after the #185 series ........closed the shop in 1986, and the home shop in 1996, retired in 2002...........21 years ago,,,so the stocks I got here are "dated":rolleyes:

Last Saturday I bought a beautiful walnut (?) Mini-14 stock at a local show. The seller didn't know anything about it. I always loved the look and feel of wooden stocks so it was natural that I'd take this one home. My gun is a 580 but it never occurred to me that there might be variations. I haven't had a chance to try fitting it yet. I've been concerned with possible missing parts. The only metal on this one is a beautiful blued butt plate. What else do I need? Ed
