Mini 14 question

Just bought a Mini 14 from 1982, do you have to use 223 ammo or can I use 5.56? Thanks guys.

You can view and download the owners manual under the customer service section of Rugers web site.

As I understand it, from page 11, either 223 or 5.56 is fine.

Think about it this way, one of the main reasons the mini-14 was designed and marketed was so that it could shoot readily available ammunition..... and what ammunition was that?

A timely post, I was just wondering about this myself.

I looked in my Mini-14 instruction manual, it says this: "The Ruger Mini-14 Rifles are chambered for the .223 Remington (5.56mm) cartridge. The Mini-14 Rifle is designed to use either standardized U.S. military, or factory loaded sporting .223 (5.56mm) cartridges manufactured in accordance with U.S industry practice."

Sounds like "both" to me !!
