Jeepnik my son carried an M249 during his time in the 505 PIR 82nd Airborne.

I really didn't like that they were SAW gunners. Those are the first weapons that get targeted. They are RPG magnets. Both paid the price. But both came home. A bit bent and the younger one somewhat broken but home they did come.

No, the M60 was 7.62, but there is a belt feed 5.56. A loss at the model number at this time.

Tell me more about the spotting round? Also the 20mm is all loose and can be pulled out. There is no propellant powder. The primers look live and the projectiles are 3 different types. I shall probably trade off the 20mm if anybody wants it. The linked regular stuff will decorate my gun room.

@the_leper_colony , that's the one. The spotting rifle on those recoiless guns is officially the M8C. The bullet should be an incendiary-tracer type with a trajectory loaded to match that of the recoiless guns. Intended to sight in those guns without giving away their position.

Linked 5.56 were used in several squad auto weapons. M60 was one of them.

The SAW uses linked 5.56. The M60 was 7.62. Black tip is armor piercing…

To me the projectile with the long pointy ogive looks to be 30mm, put a dial caliper on the rotating band and if it's about 1.2" bingo.

The linked rounds on top are 20mm as used in the Vulcan A.D. gun and Phalanx CIWS ship board systems.
Hard to tell but they look like they might be live explosive projectiles. If it was me I'd hand them over to the local L. E. bomb squad.

The red tip 5.56, tracers for m249/ the 30-06 black tip linked for m1919 browning/ bigger linked 50 cal for m2. The short 50cal next to the 50 cal linked is tracer/spotter round for an m40 recoiless rifle. The short big brass one next to the two aluminum longer ones that are 37mm flares, brass one is 40mm m203 or m79 grenade launcher round.
A m60, m14 and m240 are 7.62x51/308 Winchester chambered, there's none in the picture.
The rest I don't know. They weren't in my arms room.. lol
