Well, it's been 5 weeks,, and no internet. My limited use has bee when I could use my phone to do part of what I try to to. No TV,, so each evening we've been watching movies on DVD.
We were about to go to bed,, when Miss Penny noticed a change in the lights on our internet equipment.
After a few minutes of playing with the remote controls,, and all, we discovered we now have our internet back.

At least right now.

We have seen workers in our general area that we had hoped were repairing the lines damaged by Helene.

There is another internet provider locally, and we've heard that they have had intermittent signal for several days now.

So,, maybe we have it back, and hopefully it'll stay back & stay strong!

Or it may just be a teaser that we will have to suffer until they get more work done!

So,, from 9/26 until 11/1 we have been unable to do much internet stuff!

Our disaster has truly been devastating to so many, and for so long,, it's nice to see slow but steady improvement. We still have a LONG way to go before things get back to a more normal way of life.
I've heard that the road repairs will be 1-3 years before things are fixed.

I'm off to bed,, but I'll report more tomorrow & Sunday on some of the many things we've had happen locally.

Hang in there Ty, with all the hardships in your area. Thinking of your area & hoping for the best.

From what I've been seeing at different places on the internet, and I don't want this to go "political" - there have been a LOT of people/companies doing a lot more for your area than the Feds have been doing. I guess the Feds are "coordinating" everything. Saw that I-26 is now open, abet 1 lane each way. I think I-40 is going to take a lot longer to repair. There are maps now showing alternative routes into and out of western NC. Miss Penny has been keeping Jackie appraised.

The fact is that since people will pick at and sue everything the government does (at ALL levels, not just federal), everything they do needs to be documented. So, yes, it does take time. Private efforts don't have to follow the rules, or chose not to, and can do much in a short time. If, however, something happens to what the private entities build quickly, whom is responsible and will have to repair that work?

I watched the 30 minute drone video linked in a separate thread here: https://www.rugerforum.com/threads/get-'er-done.318435/
and I still can't comprehend the devastation that occurred. We lost a third of our house here in Greenville and the clean up took out most of our yard and in comparison that is nothing.
Hang in there Ty. I sure hoe to be at next year's gathering.....

Our church just completed a fund drive held over the past two weeks. We filled a 48' trailer and 3 trucks with supplies, and raised nearly $5,000 that are on the way to NC. I heard the trailer was packed top to bottom, back to front. Praying for God's strength and providence for all who suffered loss, and for those providing assistance.

Being in & around all this, I get a lot of first hand info. I even got more details on a few places yesterday,, that until then, had not been available.
The "local" news station isn't focusing on the things it truly needs to put more effort into. Even though I didn't have internet,, our provider,, kept recording the local news. I watched a lot of the back shows last night,, trying to catch up on stuff,, and the TV station, based in Asheville,, spent the majority of the broadcasting talking about Asheville. Many of the outlying areas got a little bit of coverage,, but many places haven't even been mentioned yet. And while it is important to keep the city people informed on stuff,,, most of the outlying areas,, haven't been covered with GOOD info as to updates & such.

The roads.

I-40 east & west. Going from Asheville to Tenn. Near the Tenn line,, major damage with a good section washed away. I-40 is closed. It may be closed for up to 3 years according to the officials.
I-26 from Asheville to Johnson City Tenn,, again near the state lines, is damaged & closed. However,, they are going to be open a lot sooner. Just heard this past week that (1) lane has been opened for local traffic only.

Big truck traffic is being routed to I-77 to I-81 to get to Tenn. Or from the south,, I-75 out of Atlanta to Tenn.

To get to my area,, say from the north,, I-77 to I-85,,, to US 74.

Hopefully, by next fall, things will be a lot better.

After all you've been through you recognize it could be worse. Most would be having a pity party for themselves.

Blume you are a good man. Bless you.

Contender I'm glad you guys are getting back to some semblance of normalcy. Keep the faith.

Thanks all.
We were very blessed and know it.
And we truly appreciate all the people who've traveled to our area to work, volunteer, bring supplies, etc. So many have done so much. I've met some really nice folks,, who have given freely of their time, money & such.
