I just stopped into my LGS and they just got in a Marlin 1893; also called the Model 93, in 30-30. It's serial number is on the 3000's which dates it back to 1925; 100 years old. I had never seen one in person. I got a really nice 336 in 30-30 over 3 years ago so I was interested. It's in great shape and the action is still smooth. The blueing was pretty nice with just a little amount of patina in spots and on the barrel band. The stock and foreend were in great shape also. They had it listed at $775 but the owner said he'd take $725. I put it back on the rack and then did some price checking on GB after I left the store. Looking at the condition of the Model 93's that SOLD on GB for a lot higher price than this one...I quickly called them back and they saved it for me. I think I came across a good deal.

Does anyone have one and what has your experience been? I really like my 336 30-30 so if it's anything like that one I know I'll like it.

Glad it was there when you got back. The workmanship on the 93s was amazing.

$725 is a great deal, especially for the condition you describe.

I have the feeling that as more of the older generation passes, more rifles like this will pop up for sale.

I have a model 36 made in 1946. Square bolt. It is almost new looking. I bought it years ago. Mine is 30/30. It was factory drilled for a peep site. I
put a vintage Lyman receiver sight on it. I've killed a few deer with it. I love the rifle!

I have a couple of 93's and 1893's they are very well made and nice rifles, you will love it. In todays market that is probably a very good price.

The 36 model is a very nice rifle too.

I recently had a 93 in my shop, rear sight missing, the screw that held in the magazine cap was missing (it had so much gunk built up on the mag tube cap that it was glued in place. The customer had sticker shock from the price of the replacement Marble's sight.

I went back in to the LGS store today and officially put it n layaway. The price was $725 OTD which was even better than expected. I did notice it had to holes on the left side of the receiver that was for a push-in saddle ring. That's not a big deal to me. I gave it a good look over again and was really happy with the blueing with just a few small spots of patina. The stock and handguard also looked good with no major dents or scratches. The action was really smooth also. I put it in a rifle sock to protect it until it's ready to come home.

Thanks everyone for your great advice and insights into this Model 93 that was new to me.

I picked it up last Friday. I was wondering if anyone could help out with a date that it was made. It does have the Marlin bullseye in the stock and the serial number is 391n. From what I can find, it might be on or around 1926 or so? What do you Model 93 experts think? Can't wait to get it out and shoot it soon.
