Doug, I would say it is some what rare. In 98% with box and papers about $450 - $500. That is a very good cartridge and you will fall in love with it. Easy shooting, easy to load and super performance. My favorite.

Sam, thank you for the response. The gun I am looking at has no box or paper work and is in excellent condition, but he wants 550 for it. I've tried to get him down but he insists that it's a rare cal. Think I will pass.

Is a MarkII w/tang safety in 6.5x55 a rare gun? What's it worth in excellent condition?

Doug

One thing though, if it has a tang safety, its NOT a Mark II, its a
M77 (no mark designator) but I never knew it was made in 6.5
Swede, great cartridge and lethal on whitetails, at least it is in
my Mark II with the side swinging safety modeled on the Win.
Mod 70.

You guys are right on! Saw the gun today and it's NOT a tang safety so I didn't buy it. He came down to 500 but I thought that was still too much.

Nice gun, but not for the money and besides I wanted a tang safety.

Doug

PS this is a great site

A local shop has a MKII 6.5 Swede in excellent shape that has been on the rack a couple of months. They are asking $500 also.
