Hello all, new member here. I am planning on getting a Mark III 5.5" BB Blued version. My issue I have is that I have very acidic sweat and basically can rust almost all finishes. I even rusted my dads melonite finish on his XD9. Will the bluing hold up with general care and maintennance? Ive had to get in the habit of wiping down all the firearms I touch with CLP, will that be sufficent?

Also Lipsey's Dist has a Matte Black Mk3 5.5 BB with silver aluminum grips. Link - http://www.lipseys.com/itemdetail.aspx? ... exclusives

Does anyone have this model? It looks to me mainly as a stock Mk3, but with the matte finish, which I prefer for aestethic reasons. A local dealer can get it for $405, which is only a $75 difference for a blued one in my area. Will this finish be any more or less resistant?

I also can get pistols refinished in Metalife through a relative on PA State Police contract with Mahovsky's for just about $125. Metalife seems to work fine for me, my father has a S&W Model 36 finished in it that I shoot frequently and have never had a issue.

Thank you for you help.

Having been in the 'refinishing business since the early 70's ...I can tell you, that for some folks, there is not a wide choice of whats out there for resistance to acid hands (sweat) seen them all get "done in by sweat"...no, not all folks sweat, just some.....Mehovskys finish has been ok for us alos over the years and of your list above, most likely the "best" but at times it may need a "coating" of some such ,like Robars...but even then, I would ask them first...you could go through a LOT of types of finish...but you have answered your own questions, for the most part ,so if 'Metalife' works in the other gun, it should work for you...botttom line is go to the 22/45 style with the 'polymer' lower ,grip frame........
good luck and enjoy...............

I know you didn't ask this but... My wife used to "eat" jewelry of less than 18k gold with her skin secretions (acid sweat). This can be helped sometimes through supplements to your diet. I would ask your doctor, but taking apple cider vinegar (yes, sounds counterintuitive) tablets have really helped her. She can now wear the "cheap" stuff without turning it green.

Sounds crazy, and I don't normally give out advice like this, but it has worked very well for her and the pills are cheap.

I voted for Metalife above, as it saved a Vaquero for me and has held up well, but I bet stainless would likely work for you as well.

Looks like Stainless is my best option then. The 22/45 I dont like much, it just feels not right in my hand, also I have a nice supply of Mk3 mags from relatives.

Also does anyone have any opinions on the Lipseys Matte Black edition? I love the look of it and would love to have it. It pretty much looks to me like a standard Mk3, but the diff finish and grips.
