Sorry guys, I just can't resist showing off the latest acquisition. It's an M77RS 243 with the Slotted front sight ramp and it's NIB. The slotted front sight is one of the rarest features to be found on a Flat Bolt M77RS (or S - Sights - no rings) and show up in the 70-0xxxx - 70-10xxx range. This rifle is the highest serial numbered slotted sight I have seen, 70-10491 and I've only seen 5 or less M77's with this feature in 30 years. I owned another M77RS 243 with the slotted sight serial number 70-08758. Slotted sights show up more frequently on early No.1's in my experience. I 've never seen any other caliber with the slotted sight besides 243 and 308. Also of note is the straight wood under the eject port, another feature to watch for in this serial range.

Randy, great gun. Love those complete packages. I always thought the straight wood under the bolt was only on the real early flatbolts....looks like I learned something today which is good!!

Yes, the slot was for a hood but I think there were only 3 No.1's shipped with a hood and no M77's.

I always liked the look of the straight wood. All of the non prefix short action flat bolt guns had the straight wood. The long action rifles always had the cut down wood under the eject port. The straight wood continued into the early 70- prefix mixed with cut down stocks. The highest serial number I've had with straight wood was 70-14xxx, an RS 308.

:D Whoa Howdy! That looks mighty fine....can't wait to see it up close...sure makes that round bolt mistake of mine look like a dog...For those of you that don't know yet, Randy is the Encyclopedia of Long Rugers, right here in Idaho, and he has forgotten more about the other stuff than I'll retain between here and the pine box....RB

Thanks for posting...I have one with that front sight and never knew it was rare. Mine is a LOT rougher than yours. It has put some deer in the freezer though.

Please send a pm of the sn (and caliber) so we can add it to the Ruger reference!
