M77 RT .257 Roberts from 1972 - Question??

Hello all,

I have a like new condition Ruger M77 RT model in .257 Roberts with original box.

Can one of you folks tell me what the "RT" indicates??

round top takes "normal" rings & bases not factory ruger rings

The bases needed will be the same ones for the Remington Model 700.

The rifle has a scope mounted, but I was not familiar with the meaning of the "RT"

Very desirable model, IMO. I have one in 7mm Rem. Mag. Not sure when the RT option was discontinued - I know I bought a new one in .270 in 1977. I'd love to hear from one of our more educated collectors about the time frame for the RT models.

RT = Round top. The top of the receiver isn't cut for Ruger's integral rings.
They also made a PL with round top receiver and withoout sights.

RT and ST were the same I believe. I have seen some of the those early 257 roberts boxes marked both ways

When did they discontinue the "roundtop" option?

I don't think they ever did end it for a while. They just called it the St. I think just the very first boxes were marked RT
