I have a new M77 MKII stainless/synthetic .223 that I have put about 80-100 rounds through. I also have the exact same rifle in .243 and .30-06. The .223 does not eject well or properly as far as I can tell. If I do anything less than pull it back fast and hard, the shell stays in place. Even if I open the bolt at a faster rate than feels needful, it will not eject. The casing just stays put. My other two rifles eject with MUCH less effort. Any ideas, or does it need to go to the smith? It seems to do this the same with either empty casings or unfired rounds. It is a tackdriver though. In fact, all 3 guns are sub moa with factory ammo.

The ejector could be dirty or have a burr that prevents movement.

There is a possibility the tip of the ejector is broken off or the wrong ejector is installed.

Compare how it rises into the bolt slot compared to your other rifles. Take the bolt out and push the ejector up and down to check movement.

The ejector seems to be in the correct spot in the bolt slot. It has plenty of movement with the bolt removed. The .06 and .243 ejectors have a different shape to them than the .223. They have a tip which causes the ejector to have a bit of an "L" shape to it. The .223 does not. It is more of a straight slab. It is smooth and does not appear to be broken. Also, all three bolts come back to a different spot on the receiver, with the .06 coming back well beyond the back of the receiver opening, the .243 a little back of the opening, and the .223 a little in front of the opening. All three ejectors seem to clear the bolt at a very similar distance.

I compared it with the .243 and they seemed to be similar. How would I go about checking that? Any chance it could be something as simple as cheap PMC ammo case variations? The problem occurs after a case has been fired and is immediately trying to eject. Cold cases eject just fine with little effort.

shaneroo-I followed your post and was thinking type of ammo as well until you mentioned it the PMC brand has caused others problems.

I have a Hawkeye .223 and use Federal Premium ammo with no issues.

I will bet it is ammo. Is the PMC brand all you have shot through it?

Try another brand and I will bet that your results will be different.

I am in no way saying that the PMC brand of ammo is not good ammo-only that others have had some less than superior results from using it.

Good shooting-Steve

PMC is all that I've shot through it to date. I bought the gun brand new, so I know that is the only brand it has ever had through it. I will try some different ammo and see how it goes. I've done a bunch of tests that people have pm'd me about, and all seems to be correct with the rifle. Thanks for the replies. If anyone has any more info, please let me know.
