Hello everyone,

Here is the deal, I recently acquired a Pre-Warning M77 in 250 Savage, the S/N is 71-035**, will anyone shed some light on how many were produced and what the value of such a rifle might fall into with being 90% or better? Any information is appreciated.

Thank you,
Mark

Is it a flatbolt? Sights/no sights? Box/no box?
By the serial number you gave it should be a flatbolt, but they were being phased out for the round bolt at about that time.

Not a flat bolt sadly........... No sights, no box. I apologize for the missing information. All help is appreciated.

Nobody can tell you how many were made. It's a closely guarded secret of the factory. You'll see more in the Round Bolt. I recently sold a Flat Bolt M77R 250 for $850 (like a fool). Oh yeah, it was like new but I never shot it or even mounted a scope. My friend was trying to get all the variations of the Flat Bolt. (I did that 15 years ago).

Chet15, I think you were thinking the serial prefix as #70, which would make it a flat bolt. But with the #71 prefix, it should certainly be a round bolt rifle.

3D, Not trying to prove you wrong but the Flat Bolts went up to 71-03131 so far. Not too much of a stretch to think it could be a Flat Bolt. I have M77R 71-00071 which should be a Flat Bolt but is a Round Bolt.

Thanks for that info Randy, I didn't realize they were found that far into the serial prefix range. I stand corrected & learned something new, which is what I love about this site!

Thank you for sharing, either way, from what I gather, Ruger did not make many, you do not see them for sale. I will clean it up well and perhaps even shoot it one day.

You did well, true, first one I ever seen, I just will put it away and enjoy it growing older for my grandson.

I bought one a few years ago for $495. Condition is 98%+ and it is a 200th year gun. But as stated previously, you don't see them often...

I've got a 77R 250 Savage w/ 200th Year roll mark as well. Also another 77R in 250. Had a third 77R also in 250 but traded it off for a 77 Mark II in 350 Rem Mag.
Well there is also my 77 Mark II in 250 Savage Ackley Imp but it's a Shilen barrel. Oh are they sweet shooters, especially the Shillen barreled 77!

Are you trying to make people hate you?

I got a ruger M77 flat bolt 243 serial number 58 never been fired
Nice!! Surprised the collector in Wisconsin doesn't have that one.
Have you ever received a factory letter on that one? Curious if it went to somebody at the factory. Pretty sure Tom Ruger got some 58's.

Love those non prefix M77's!! Most are .243 and .308 without sights, but there are a few in 6mm, 77V .22-250's, and a few .243, .308 and 6mm with sights but those are especially rare.
