PLEASE NEVER butcher a rare original! I've hunted with a Savage 99 in 284 Win for decades!
I've harvested more whitetails, Mulies, and Elk than I can count! Hand loaded 160gr HPBT is within 150fps of a 7mag with all the blast and bark.
I love the Ruger 77RS and have owned the 270 and two 7X 64 Brenekke's. I'd love a 284. That being said, it's a desired collectible. There's plenty of available firearms for long distance target shooting.
