Just started using WW231 in .44 special. It's now my fave midrange powder in that caliber along with 200 gr hard cast RNFP's.

Have had good success with Universal, Unique and 180 gr JHP's too.

Incidently POA with the most accurate charge of the above combos is the same.

FYI, FWIW, and all that: W231 is the same as HP-38. According to one source, they come out of the same nozzle at the factory.

I just finished my first pound of HP-38 last night on some .44 Specials. I have a can of W231 to replace it, but I'm not going to mix them...

+1 for HS-6.
It has been my Favorite (non-magnum) powder,
for many years, in the 45colt, 45acp, & 38spl. It still is.
However, lately, I have been using a couple of IMR powders
with Excellent results. They are SR4756 (good stuff) and Hi-Skor 800 (also good).
They both really Shine in the 45s. although the 800X doesn't meter well.(large disc-like grains)
I bet they would do well in your 44spl, also.
I have my eye on an EAA Witness Match in 10mm, and I will
definitely be trying these powders; If I can make it mine.
