Looking for a sand alternative for sand bags as shooting rests.

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I use new corn cpb media sold at our big box store for small critters. Works great and can also used in my tumbler. My one bag/rest actually came with that media already in it. Much cheaper than the gun shops sell.

I want to make a few sand bags for shooting rests. Wondering if anyone has an alternative media that's a bit lighter than sand and is still fairly cheap and readily available? Right now my thought is to cook the sand until all the moisture is removed from it. By the way, I'm going to use standard 25 lb shot bags.

Thanks,

BC
not a media but i taped a few 1 foot pieces of pool noodle together into a cloth bag , made a great revolver rest, put layers of old t shirt sleeves to keep up with any burn marks

Tube socks stuffed with rice.

I'd go with a "Duplex" load, plastic fill and shot (lead, steel, etc.) of your choice.

You could vary the ratio until you get just the density or "feel" you're after.

"Handloading- not just for cartridges, anymore!" 😂
