Picked up a box of the Hornady 230 gr. XTP bullets yesterday and loaded up a small bunch
with 6.5 gr. of Unique to see how they would perform and function in my Springfield XDE.

Did a water jug test and a 6 shot run at my target from a 20 ft. distance. Bullet stopped in 5th jug.
Don't know how the 3 smaller jugs figure in but this is the result.

Results looked very good to me and these could be a nice SD round.

Have yet to try them in my Ruger Cmd 1911 and will try that next.
COL on these was 1.230 and my Chrony was having issues so no speed on these but
load data suggest 850-880 FPS depending on barrel length.

Thank you for the 230gr XTP Range Test and Pictures.

The 230gr XTP are my go to bullet for something with
a Hollow Point. I've always have used the XTP in my
other Calibers.

After reading your Post, I went to look at my Notes on what
Powders I use. Unique, Bullseye, American Select, and
Winchester W231, I do have Alliant Red Dot but have never
tried that in the 45 ACP.

Currently my Defense Loads are the 45 ACP 230gr XTP reloaded in
Aluminum Cases found on the ground. The Powders above in
the 5.1 - 5.3grs range all work in my Circa 2007 Ruger SR1911 Full Size.

Thanks again for this important data.

My old Chrony , the green F1, can give me crazy numbers or just "errors" if the sun is to low.
Next time I get down there I will try and make it a bit earlier in the day for a high sun.

I would like to get those numbers too for my notes.

Had thoughts of trying some N-350 powder which will allow a bit more speed than Unique but
my local shop doesn't have it currently. It is a slower powder and while showing good results in a 5 inch
1911 I don't know how it would perform in a shorter 3.3 inch barrel.
It is reported to be a clean burning powder and is a bit pricey.

Unique will get the job done.

As a side note I ran a mag full thru my HiPoint carbine and they feed fine.

I use mostly Unique for all my handgun loads but have also used Red Dot with good results. I settled on midrange loads for comfortable shooting for my wife and the 2 Grandboys. Accuracy is good with ACME coated lead bullets in revolvers and FMJ in SR1911 .45acp
(.38Spl, .357mag, .44Spl(Skeeter load), .44mag, .45acp, & .45Colt)

II also use the 6.5 gr unique, 230 gr xtp in my 5 1/2" blackhawk convertible, very accurate, and hard hitting, don't remember velocity
