I can't seem to find good load data for IMR 4189 for 405 gr LfN bullets in the 45/70. Not even when I look of IMR data, they stop at 300 gr bullets. Yet, I see many extoll the virtues of this poweder for 45/70 applications.

Can anyone shed light on my problem. Offer some suggestions. My Lee loader manual also does not list IMR 4189 for 45/70 in 405 gr.bullets, it lists H 4189, which I do not have.

I am loading for a Marlin Guide gun.

VTM are you refering to IMR4198? I am not aware of IMR 4189 or H4189. I use H4198 in some of my 45-70 loads with 405 gr cast bullets.

Yes, Cary, It is IMR 4198. Sorry. Just can't seem to find data for lead 405's
Yet, people discuss using this powder very often.

Any help that you or others can provide would be wonderful. I'd like to reload some this afternoon.

VTM,
Sorry I didn't get back with you until now. I was out shooting this afternoon. Here is a link to the Hodgdon Reloading Data Center. They have loads for Hodgdon and IMR powders. For the 45-70 they list three different levels of loads for the 45-70. The section for Trapdoor Rifles has a lot of loads listed for cast bullets that use the Hodgdon and IMR powders.
