A good friend bought this new and has not fired it. What is it's value? I'm interested and want to give him what it's worth. It's an older Mark II with competition target sights in black and has laminated wood grips without the thumbrest. Thanks for your help. Brett

Wow, never fired! I'd pay 300.00 without even thinking about it , check 'gunbroker.com".... may well be worth 350.00 with box+ papers and 2 mags....

Sounds like a really nice gun. I believe a 5 1/2" slabside may be a distributor special. I paid $300 for my 5 1/2" standard bull barrel (stainless) that was in used but fairly good condition. I did see a 6 7/8" slabside (stainless) target at the gun show a couple of weeks ago. It was LNIB and had a price tag of $395 (marked down from $425). I thought that was a decent deal as they seem to be asking between $425 and $475 for these.

I think you'll find the 5.5" slabsides (KMK512GC) a little hard to come by. I believe they were distributor exclusives, either for Davidson's and/or Big Rock(?) Sports.

Other than the USST version (gaudy gold on bolt, fiber optic sights, etc.), I've only seen one 5.5" slabside in person- the one I bought from a forum member earlier this year! :p

I paid slightly over $400 for it shipped. It was used, in pretty good shape, with box/manual, but no fired cartridge (don't know if it's old enough to have come with one).

In the end, it's worth whatever you're willing to pay. I'd say $400-450 isn't out of line if it's in good shape and has got the box, manual, etc. with it.

If you're not specifically looking for the 5.5" slabside, you should be able to do a little better (pricewise) on a more common model- such as the 5.5" bull (KMK512) or the 6-7/8" slabside (KMK678GC).

Happy shopping, and let us know how you come out!

if it looks like this:

(MKIII version shown)

It could be a MK512GCL, a Lipsey's Special. about $350 new when I got mine.

The prices that that MK II's are bringing have steadily increased since the MK III's came out. Also, not as many MK II's on the market now, people are hanging on to them.

Mattsbox99 that's it! Do you have any idea how many were made? How does it compare to the older 6 7/8 Gov't. Competition Model in terms of weight? and do you think the shorter barrel has any drawbacks?

I'm not sure how many were made, probably 5000 or so. I have the 6 7/8 version as well, and a few more MKII/MKIII pistols. I like the balance of the 5.5" barrel, the slabside reduces weight while still giving bull barrel performance, not to mention being a good looking configurations.

MKs are exceptionally accurate and reliable pistols, I use this one for steel challenge competition and its done very well through many matches.

I recently saw a Mark II stainless 5 1/2" slabside at a gunshow for $350. It was decent condition with the box and papers. Nice looking guns. Accusport has a special edition Mark III that is a 5 1/2" stainless slabside, just like Mark II pictured above.

My notes (from Ruger) show 894 of the KMK512GC (Ruger model 0188) being produced for Big Rock Sports from 2002 to 2003. I have them noted in the 225-04418 to 225-31716 sn range. Please send me a PM if your gun falls outside of this so I can update my notes.
Thanks!
