I told my dealer today that I wanted one of the Lipsey Flattop .44 Special with the 5 1/2" tube. He's got me on his order list but he said that Lipsey doens't have any "yet". I thought they already had them? Am I too late?

I don't know the current status. It is possible that they have all been sold.

The initial run was reported to be a more-or-less one time special run for the distributor (Lipsey's).

We can hope more will be produced!

And you might be able to find one for sale elsewhere; gunbroker, etc, etc.

I look forward to reading others' responses.

Rumor has it the original run went so fast that Lipsey's has reordered.

Good luck. I'm half thinking of picking up one of the 4-3/4" models as a project gun.

My local dealer has at least 3 of each barrel length in stock, so they are still available. Maybe your pusher can call around and find one.

The Lipsey's order was completed and these models are in the 2010 catalog.

I am saying he might still get one from Lipsey's, but if not, he can get one in 2010 for sure.

I take from this, it is soon to be a regular catalog item not a distributor special.

I saw the 2010 catalog and the 2 44 special models are in it. Can't be more sure than that!

I have heard from "the grapevine" that this would eventually happen....good to see that they made it so.

I have always been a die hard 45 Colt fan, but once I held that Lipsey's 44 Special in my hands, I became a believer. Very nice gun.

Problem is, I keep liking too many calibers....

The Lipsey's exclusive is definitely in the 2010 Ruger listing. Here is the extract from the new price list:

NEW MODEL BLACKHAWK .44 Special Caliber - 6 Shot
5232 NVB-444 4-5/8" barrel
5233 NVB-445 6-1/2" barrel Blued . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
DISTRIBUTOR PRICE SHEET - 2010 EFFECTIVE
(SUPERCEDES JAN. 1, 2009)

Still not sure what to expect. Is this a flattop, based on the 50th Anniversary medium frame, or is it based on their .44 mag? Also, the Lipsey's run did not include a 6.5" gun, but a 5.5" one.

Still, this could be good news to those of us who (maybe) wanted another.

Sam,

The Lipsey's gun is going straight into 2010 as a catalog item. No changes whatsoever. That 6 1/2 is a misprint.

I think that you are correct about it being a mis-print, but Ruger listed 6 1/2" on the price list, and in the excel listing they sent out:

5232 NVB-444 44 Special 4 5/8" Blued
5233 NVB-445 44 Special 6 1/2" Blued

Since the part numbers are the same as those used by Lipsey's, I am sure that the barrel lengths will match up.
