There's a name out of the past. Almost as fast with the HS as he was with a knife & fork IIRC. :)

I just bought a JC Higgins 88 with a 2" bbl and bird's head grip - made by HS anyway. For a cheap gun they sure do last a long time.

Was in OR last weekend, dropped by a local pawn shop and saw about 30 HS semi pistols laid out for sale. I left with an adjustable sighted Sport King and 5" bull barrel for under $400.00. Looks like someone with good taste in guns either decided to sell off a collection, or his surviving family so to speak. All in top notch shape. I think I'll peck away at them a few weekends at a time.

i found an old pic of the different red bottom military mags. note the 1965 style and the current houston style.
old style is glued on and the new one is squeezed into the mag body.

Wow, old thread I missed…. but will post my only HS semiauto.
Bought this Duramatic new around 1970 or so, and didn't notice until years later the dealer had given me the wrong box.

I have an old Giles modified Model 107 MILITARY used by an Army pistol team. The trigger used to have a light glass touch, now it has started to get rough with irregular pressure release. Is there a recommended gunsmith who has High Standard triggers as a forte? Cleaning and lubricating don't seem to help.

OK, I finally have a couple of pics. I bought this in the early 1990s from a guy who used to shoot NRA 3 gun, but needed to sell because of a divorce. I was pretty broke, so I talked him into just selling me the High Standard. I wish now I had found a way to buy the .45ACP and .38 he had. This is a Model 107 Military Supermatic Tournament. After shooting some informal NRA Bullseye, I decided gophers were in my future, so I made some changes. The bull barrel with a match chamber has an integral scope mount - I found it in a Brownell's catalogue back then. The grips are Herrett Target grips I found at a gun show. The sight is a cheap Tasco I bought when red dot sights were really just getting started on the market. It still works great and has a 2Mil dot which is perfect for me. Many gophers and some unaware prairie dogs later,

Probably. I don't remember how it was attached, it came a one piece from Brownells. I don't want to remove the sight to look, but I'm sure you are correct. I have shot prairie dogs at better than 50 yards with it. My BIL was using a .22 rifle and we were pretty even with hits at that range. South Dakota elevation angle guess. :)
