Not custom by a long shot, but I really like these 2 Commanders Lightweight S&W 1911PD's one is a billboard model.

Got rid of the FLG and changed mainspring housings. Then knocked the corners off the grip 68AF2D46-C51E-47B2-B579-2956DA08F11F.jpeg

Dang, Mike454! That color is extremely deep and eye-catching. That's a nice charcoal color. I may have to consider that on a custom someday.
Has anyone here ever worked a Norinco frame from back in the day? I heard they were good starting points for a custom, and I may have a shot
at one.

Here's my favorite 1911. It's a bit of a mutt...it has changed some over the years. The stripped Caspian receiver was bought in 1989 and I built the original pistol at Poway Gun Works. Last thing I did was replace Hogue camo grips with VZ grips.

USGI slide w/flared ejection port and milled for low mount Bomar BMCS rear sight.
Ed Brown barrel w/fitted bushing
Ed Brown recoil spring plug
Wilson Combat recoil guide rod
Wilson Combat recoil spring
Wilson Combat firing pin/spring/extractor
Caspian receiver w/hand stippled front strap
Videcki speed trigger
Wilson Combat sear spring
Ed Brown main spring housing
Wilson Combat beaver tail grip safety
Wilson Combat extended thumb safety
Chip McCormick hammer/sear/disconnector group
Hogue hex head grip screw sand bushings
VZ Grips
Wilson-Rogers Mags
Other misc usgi prts

My tricked out Les Baer. Gun shoots under 1" at 25 yards and under 2" at 50 yards using 185 grain Underwood ammo

There has been so much done to it that I cant even keep track. Its currently off being cerakoted Bronze and Black

I added a similar front rail to my early CZ 75 clone. If I had a 1911 without a rail I would get a Recover grip/rail setup like I have on my Berettas. Not having the option of a light, laser or easily attached optic rail is just silly these days.

Rock Island Armory doesn't make a hi cap commander in .40, so I built my .40 and had a leather holster made for it.

I just handled a Nighthawk Custom at my LGS. If it shoots as good as it feels and looks it must be great.

At one time, I had about a dozen 1911s, 1911 commanders, OM Enhanced, NM, 1911A1 (issue). The only pics I can find are for this one Commander with stag grips and for my US Property ones. I'll go back in my picture library further and look. I did have one bright blue, Commander with Ivory grips in 38 Super that I loved! (1951 vintage). Rig is EPS Tom Threepersons, of course.

I finished wringing out my single stack Commander sized Caspian / Springfield .357 Sig build. WOW! It's becoming my fave 1911, she eats anything I feed her... It's as heavy as a full size but it carries AIWB on my crotch rocket where a full size does not.

I call it "Ghost maker"
