Would a rail be reasonable or bad idea. If rail I would think cost wouldn't be to expensive

In my opinion a rail would be a bad idea. One, you won't find a holster to fit the gun w/rail. Two, just too bulky. Three, I don't think you'll find a rail made for the SP101 (unless someone makes one for the 4.2" model).

Go with the Crimson Trace grip with the laser in it, you won't be disappointed. I have an SP101 that came from the factory with the CT laser grip and I love it.
